Have you really taken care of
everything before you make the big move? From figuring out what you need to
take with you and what you should leave behind, the process can be quite frustrating
not to mention stressful.

Even if you are a good planner planning for a move can make
even you sweat bullets. The good news is that there are a number of ways you
can make the process easier. Here are some of them:

Tip 1 – De-Clutter Before You Start Packing

Moving can cost a lot so why would you want to add to that
by taking things with you that you really won’t need in your new place? These
include items and furniture that have been gathering dust in your attic and
basement for ages and items that haven’t been out of those cabinets for years.

So before making a call to Liberty Properties that you are on
your way and you start packing, the first thing you should do is to sort out
everything that you don’t need and get rid of it. You are making a fresh start
in your life, and those things will only pull you down. By de-cluttering and
selling the items that you find in the dark recesses of your home, you can cut
down your work and get some extra cash that you really need. Plus, you will
also save time in unpacking.

Tip 2 – Keep a To-Do Running List

You will overlook some things right before that moving van
comes. This can include full trash bags that you forgot to take out, dirty
showers that new home owners will complain about, a not so empty ridge that you
didn’t have time to empty and other small tasks.

It’s quite easy to forget these things when you are running
around like a headless chicken while you are packing. However, you can prevent
this from happening by creating
a running to-do list of such tasks and going through them one by one.

Cross each item off the list as it is taken care of and you
will feel that stress lifting from yourshoulders. This way you can prioritize
your time and even schedule your tasks so you can go through as many in a day
as possible.

Tip 3 – Have Cash On Hand for the Movers

If you hired a moving company, make sure that you have cash
on hand to give the movers tips on
the day you move. If you are really impressed by the service, give them a bit
more. Even though this is not necessary, it is highly appreciated.

If the movers know that their work is appreciated, they may
even go above and beyond the call of duty which will reduce you stress
significantly. Since you can’t use a credit card to do this, make sure that you
have cash on hand on the day of the move.

Tip 4 – Pack a
Cooler

There is a lot of heavy lifting involved during moving day
and chances are you will be doing some of it even if you hire professional
movers. That will take a lot of energy which you may be too distracted and busy
to replenish. Do you really want to collapse before you have taken care of the
tasks in your to-do list?

To prevent this from happening and wasting your time, pack a
cooler with enough food and drink that can last you for an entire day. Make
sure this is filled with snacks and beverages that you can consume on the go
such as nuts, chips, pre-made sandwiches and protein bars to name a few. You
should also pack extras for the movers. Even though they may have made their
own arrangements, it can pay to be nice.

Tip 5 – Pack an ‘Essentials’ Bag

This is also called a ‘go’ bag and it can be any small duffel bag that is packed with
anything you will need on the day of the move and after. This includes
important documents and valuables that you want with you in the car and not in
the moving van where they can get damaged or misplaced.

Some of the items that should go in this bag include
toiletries, extra clothes, phone chargers, necessary medication etc. Keep the
bag in a designated space in your car so that you don’t have to root around to
get the things you need. Plus, place it in your car immediately so that it
doesn’t go in the van.

Tip 6 – Charge Your Phone

You may not have time to play games on your phone on the day
of the move, but the charge may still be low because of all the calls you make
on that day. You need to ensure that your phone doesn’t give out on you during
the move. What if you get lost on the way or have to take a quick pit stop? You
need to stay in touch with the moving van so you can get to your new place at
the same time as the movers.

If you can charge your phone in the car, more power to you. Just
keep that in your essentials bag so you can grab it quickly when you need it.
If you plan on listening to music on the way, this should be one of your
priorities.

Last but not least, do a final walkthrough through the house
before heading to your new one. Keep an eye out for items that you may have
forgotten to pack and take with you. Check all of the cabinets in all of the
rooms including the back of the shelves to make sure of this.

Moving day can be a challenge, but not if you do
so smartly. The calmer you are, the faster it will go and you won’t forget
essential items either. The movers may be doing all of the heavy lifting, but
that doesn’t mean you should let them do everything.

Getting ready to move?
