Types of Contact Lenses
To help yourself when choosing the best type of contact lens, first, consider your vision needs and lifestyle demands.
Soft Lenses: Designed from a soft, gel-like plastic called a hydrogel. Very thin, flexible and sit comfortably over the eyes.
Soft contact lenses can be used to correct refractive errors such as myopia and hyperopia. Soft lenses can be classified as standard contact lenses, disposable contact lenses, and bifocal contact lenses. Soft Contact Lenses are easily available at your nearest optical shops in monthly, weekly, disposable, daily disposable or non-disposable.
Disposable Soft Lenses: Disposable soft lenses provide the option of wearing the lenses for a short time and then they can be discarded. Because dirt, bacteria and other particles can accumulate under the contact lenses. These types of lenses require minimal cleaning after use.
Bifocal Soft Lenses: Bifocal soft lenses are designed to help individuals who have refractive errors — when the shape of the eye doesn’t bend light correctly, resulting in blurred vision — see clearly from any distance.
Semi-Soft Lenses: These lenses are particularly designed to fit the patient’s corneal contour. Semi-soft contact lenses can be classified as everyday lenses, scleral lenses and Kerasoft lenses.
Coloured Lenses: While you might have the most fun with contacts, colour lenses can be tailored to your prescription, correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism — and eye colour preference.
Hybrid Contact Lenses: These consist of a central region made of a rigid gas permeable material and a peripheral region made of a hydrogel or silicone hydrogel material.
